The variegated landscape covers an area between Canosa and Cassano Murge. This area is characterized by ordered vineyards in balance between earth and sky.
The journey along the way of “”Doc Wine Castel del Monte” could begin from Andria.
The old town is a dense tangle of narrow streets and alleys bordered by churches and noble palaces.
The most important churches are: the Norman Cathedral of “Santa Maria Assunta” and the Church of “Sant’Agostino”, built by the Templars.
Of great interest are also the monastic cells excavated in tuff by Basilian monks and the site of “Castel del Monte”, recognised as Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Only 15 miles from Andria is Corato, a town of Punic origin. The old town preserves numerous noble palaces and the Mother Church of “Santa Maria Maggiore”, built around the XII century.
You can also visit the Monastery of St. Benedict. 40 miles from Corato, along the Provincial Road SP31 and is the town of Minervino Murge; a complex of white houses leaned on each other on the border of the National Park of “Alta Murgia”.
The town offers a unique landscape and for this reason Minervino Murge is also called “the balcony of Apulia”.
The town is of medieval origin and a tour through the alleys of the old town represents a wonderful experience.
The oldest part of the town is called “Borgo antico Scesciola” and during the weekend it becomes place for markets and stalls.
The old town of Minervino Murge offers the visitors many points of interest: the Castle, a small Museum, a beautiful view and interesting churches such as the Mother church of the Assumption and the Church of Purgatory.
40 miles from Minervino Murge, along the Provincial Road SP234, is Ruvo di Puglia; a town situated on the eastern slopes of the “Murgia plateau” and surrounded by olive groves and vineyards.
The town is certainly famous for the presence of the beautiful Cathedral built in the style of Romanesque Architecture.
“Caputi Palace” and the National Museum “Jatta” are certainly worth a visit; especially the museum preserves one of the richest collections of Ceramics of Apulia.
The area of Ruvo is part of the National Park of “Alta Murgia” and a walk in the maquis is recommended to appreciate the peculiarities of the Murgia karst landscape.
Only 5 miles from Ruvo, is the second last stage of “Doc Wine Road- Castel del Monte”; the town of Terlizzi.
Terlizzi is also called “the city of flowers” because of the important nursery production.
The area is characterized by karst depressions that become places of cultivation.
The built-up area has been (almost entirely) recently rebuild because the village, in the course of history, has been repeatedly destroyed by Saracen raids.
Along the highway SS16, watching the sea during the trip, in 30 minutes you reach the city of Trani.
Trani is a charming town nestled along the coast with a delightful port on which waiting vessels.
This town is the pearl of Apulia; an elegant lady whose most precious jewel is the famous Cathedral, known all over the world.
The old town is well preserved, the narrow streets are bordered by numerous noble palaces and wonderful churches.
In order to take a closer look to the interesting Romanesque sculptures you must enter the Diocesan Museum and observe the archaeological finds, capitals and vestments.
A few meters from the Cathedral is the Swabian Castle.
Sometimes walks along the promenade can go up to the beautiful Public Garden to enjoy a spectacular sunset.

This DOC wine is one of the most notorious in Apulia and it is produced in the area that covers the municipalities of: Minervino Murge, Andria, Corato, Trani, Ruvo, Terlizzi, Bitonto, Palo del Colle and Toritto.
Castel del Monte DOC white wine includes the following grape varieties: Pampanuto or Pampanino, Chardonnay or Bombino bianco. Straw-yellow in colour, this wine offers pleasant and subtle olfactory sensations. It is dry and cool to the palate.
“Castel del Monte DOC red wine” includes the following grape varieties: Nero di Troia, Aglianico, Montepulciano and Bombino nero. The last one only for Rosé wine.
The two typologies Novello and Riserva are also produced.
The production area of this DOC wine covers the municipalities of two provinces: BAT and Foggia.
It contains: Moscato di Trani (also known as Moscato Reale) with possible addition of other muscat-flavored grape varieties (maximum 15%).Golden yellow in colour, this is a natural sweet wine.
The minimum alcohol content for this wine is 14,5° and it is necessary a wine-refining of almost five months. There is also the fortified version with a minimum alcohol content of 18°.
